Meet our friendly team of consultants
Renee Taylor is the founder and director of Swallow & Speech Therapy Consultants Ltd. She previously worked as a community speech-language therapist with adults living with dysphagia and/or communication difficulties for Counties Manukau DHB and sat on the Māori Allied Health Advisory Board at Counties Manukau DHB. She also has experience at the Ministry of Education, and ACC contracting. From 2017-2019 Renee held the Māori and Cultural Development Portfolio on the Executive Board for the New Zealand Speech-language Therapists’ Association (NZSTA). She then went on to hold the "Communications portfolio on the Executive Board for the New Zealand Speech-language Therapists’ Association (NZSTA). Renee has also worked as a Professional Teaching Fellow for the University of Auckland.
Renee also works as the consultant speech-language therapist to “The Pure Food Co” who specialise in fortified texture modified foods. Renee has a special interest in adult swallowing disorders particularly in an aged care setting, as well as clients with neuro-degenerative conditions, and head and neck cancer. She is a strong advocate for advanced care planning and quality palliative care management. Renee prides herself in providing a holistic and client centered approach to her work.
Jess trained at The University of Auckland and has extensive experience working with adults who have swallowing disorders and/or communication impairments. Jess currently works for Counties Manukau DHB having recently returned from working for the NHS in London. She has worked predominately in the community setting, providing assessment and therapy at client's homes and nursing/residential homes. She is also able to provide personalised training for professionals around swallowing and communication difficulties. Jess feels strongly about reducing barriers and increasing independence for her clients. She has a particular interest in Dementia, Motor Neuron Disease and swallowing rehabilitation.
A Distinguished Fellow of the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners, and Honorary Fellow of the RACP, Dr Tane Taylor is a critical thinker and strategic advisor to private health organisations and government agencies both in New Zealand and internationally. He is a GP Teacher, Fellowship Assessor. Dr Taylor was part of the RNZCGP Practice Standards Development Committee and continued as an assessor completing over 250 accreditation audits.
Tane is of maori descent and whakapapa to Tainui, Te Aroha and Takitimu waka. He is currently a consultant to and Medical Lead at Vensa Health NZ and Feedback Research Ltd Auckland and General Manager for Swallow and Speech Therapy Consultants Ltd. As an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Auckland , and with many years’ experience in the teaching, mentoring and supervision of medical students, house surgeons and registrars,
Tane’s main focus is on building, supporting and facilitating integrated learning environments within primary healthcare. He believes that through open and honest collaboration among all stakeholders – PHOs, DHBs, government agencies, universities, general practices, SLT’s, Physio, OT’s and communities – it is possible to deliver a high- quality, efficient and fit for purpose medical workforce ready and willing to serve New Zealand’s diverse peoples and communities. Dr Taylor is a member of the NZ Institute of Directors Dr Taylor is the Republic of Albania Honorary Consul to New Zealand.
